In 2012 Dan Cruickshank became Patron of the Trust
'Only by encouraging and training young craftsmen and women can our old buildings be protected and correctly repaired and future heritage created. Most people who love old buildings love the arts and crafts they enshrine, love the materials out of which they are fashioned and the skilled way in which they are made and their details wrought. And it is exactly these qualities that the Trust is helping to protect and promote. Many people find delight and inspiration in old buildings - but without skilled, informed and dedicated craftsmen and women past beauty would be diluted or destroyed and new delights not made. Building craftsmen and women are the nation's 'living heritage', the lifeblood of sensitive conservation and the guarantee of future excellence in building.'
